Today\u2019s installment in our 2012 Summer Reads series comes from\u00a0Issue 1\u00a0<\/em>contributor\u00a0Desmond Kon Zhicheng-Mingd\u00e9. He says:<\/div>\n

I\u2019m all over the place with this\u00a0summer\u2019s selections. Hughes gives me a great lens into the lives of Whitman, Capote and Styron, against the gritty backdrop of Brooklyn. Pavel\u2019s lovely memoir, translated from the Czech, is just altogether charming! The third title helps me understand the ruba\u2019i, a two-lined Persian poetic form, with each line split evenly into two hemistitchs. The ruba\u2019i is also known as \u201ctaraneh\u201d, meaning \u201csnatch\u201d. This will satisfy my sporadic return to more formalist sensibilities.<\/div>\n<\/p>\n
