Here&#8217;s quick rundown of the goods in store:<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_341\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-341\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.asiancha.com\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-341\" title=\"Cha Cover Issue 9\" src=\"http:\/\/lanternreview.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/Cha9Cover-300x131.jpg\" alt=\"Cha Issue 9\" width=\"300\" height=\"131\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lanternreview.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/Cha9Cover-300x131.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lanternreview.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/Cha9Cover.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-341\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Cha Issue 9<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.asiancha.com\/\">Cha: An Asian Literary Journal<\/a><\/em> celebrates its second anniversary with a stunning 9th Issue, guest edited by Reid Mitchell (poetry) and Jonathan Mendelsohn (prose).\u00a0 I especially admired the cinematic textures of &#8220;Mope,&#8221; the second of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.asiancha.com\/issue\/9\/carolinebird\">two poems<\/a> by Caroline Bird, the earthy resonances of Arlene Kim&#8217;s &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.asiancha.com\/issue\/9\/arlenekim\">The Tiger-Brother<\/a>,&#8221; and the deft syntactical footwork of Kate Rogers&#8217; &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.asiancha.com\/issue\/9\/katerogers\">Sai Ying Pun Sestina<\/a>.&#8221;\u00a0 Also worth checking out is their <a href=\"http:\/\/www.asiancha.com\/index.php?option=com_content&amp;task=view&amp;id=514&amp;Itemid=223\">Lost Teas<\/a> section, which features reprinted work that has been &#8220;lost&#8221; due to the folding of its original place of publication.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_340\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-340\" style=\"width: 209px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kartikareview.com\/current.html\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-340\" title=\"Kartika Review Cover Issue 6\" src=\"http:\/\/lanternreview.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/Kartika6Cover.jpg\" alt=\"Kartika Review Issue 6\" width=\"209\" height=\"288\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-340\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kartika Review Issue 6<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kartikareview.com\/current.html\"><em>Kartika Review<\/em>&#8216;s Issue 6<\/a> is also fantastic, featuring poetry, fiction, and non-fiction by a number of rising Asian American artists.\u00a0 One of my own poems was selected for this issue, and I am both thrilled and honored that they&#8217;ve chosen to include my work in such an exciting lineup.\u00a0 My personal favorites from Issue 6&#8217;s poetry section are Mary Chi-Whi Kim&#8217;s &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.kartikareview.com\/issue6\/6kim.htm\">Pyongyang Phantom Feeling, 1952<\/a>,&#8221; for its sharply visceral, arresting imagery, and Lee Minh Sloca&#8217;s conversational, but incisive examination of Asian American masculinity in &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.kartikareview.com\/issue6\/6sloca.htm\">Just[ice] Please<\/a>.&#8221;\u00a0 <em>Kartika<\/em> also just announced its Pushcart nominations.\u00a0 In poetry, they selected Kenji Liu&#8217;s beautifully spare &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.kartikareview.com\/issue5\/5liu.htm\">Letter to Myself as a Newborn<\/a>&#8221; and Ocean Vuong&#8217;s intimate elegy, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.kartikareview.com\/issue5\/5vuong.htm\">Dear Vietnam<\/a>,&#8221; both from Issue 5.\u00a0 Congrats to both poets on this honor!<\/p>\n<p>Many congratulations to both <em>Cha<\/em> and <em>Kartika<\/em> on the launch of these new issues.\u00a0 We admire the work that you&#8217;re doing, and look forward to reading what&#8217;s next!<\/p>\n<div id=\"_mcePaste\" style=\"position: absolute; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow: hidden; top: 724px; left: -10000px;\">http:\/\/www.kartikareview.com\/issue5\/5liu.htm<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Our friends at Cha: An Asian Literary Journal and Kartika Review both put up their newest issues last week.\u00a0\u00a0Please head on over to check them out.
