Yeh-Yeh I & II, 2008
These photos of my grandfather are part of a collection of my family. Each person was photographed twice using a film camera. I also had each person draw anything of their choosing using a permanent marker on a transparency. One of the photos was developed normally and the other was overlaid with the transparency and masked so the person's figure would float above his drawing. I love the desk photo in particular because my grandpa's been sitting at that desk for decades, facing the wall of cello-taped FEMA certificates, civil engineering awards, and my grandma's photographs. His drawing in the other photo was a copy of a diagram he created in order to appeal a parking ticket incurred by "misleading signage."
